Coffee in hand...

Driving on my way to work this morning coffee in hand. I was up a little too late last night playing Modern Warfare with Evan, AKA Dr. Facade. We rocked it, it was a good time.

Going to be a busy day at work, have a lot to read but it's ok because at the end of this week I will be on vacation for my birthday/family reunion.

Going "home" after a long time away. Not going to lie, a little nervous but it will be good. It will be good to see some people I haven't seen in a very long time, including my childhood best friend.

Anyway, should focus on the road now. Hope everyone has a wonderful Tuesday and we'll see ya on the interwebs.

Reflections

As you can see by the pics above today was a fun busy day. After two trips to the Apple store, and two chances to experience the fun of waiting in line I finally have my new iPhoneFour. I love it. The form factor I think is my favorite which is a surprise.

To celebrate I want to reflect for a moment on the original iPhone launch. So talk a walk with me and enjoy one of my very first blog post.

"After a long day of waiting, a 5 min. unpack, then a fun time playing, it is safe to say I love my new iPhone. Everything about it is wonderful, the keyboard even works great.(I can actually punctuate now) I actually do agree with Mr. Jobs, in that this is the best ipod yet. I'm still learning some of the in and outs, but as of yet have not an issue. Enjoy the last couple of pics I took at the store before departing."

I will be getting an iPhoneFour come Thursday thanks to my good friend mister Chris Weinkauf. I've been going back and forth on the Thursday purchase. There is no doubt that I will be getting an iPhoneFour, it was/is a matter of preference on the color. I won't lie. I want white, I think it looks classy and I am just a fan of white. I decided to go with the black one though.

The reason is simple. As a utility device(which it always eventually becomes) the color will not matter to me in 6 months. Worse case scenario, I will get white the next go around. The most important reason though, I want to be apart of the launch. I enjoy, enthusiastically lining up with all of the Apple fanboys and girls geeking out to all things Apple. I want to be there with my good friend Chris as we share in the experience. This is a big part of it. We will be lining up early, at the Aspen Grove Apple store. Coffee will be involved. If you're interested in following along make sure you check my Twitter feed and my Qik channel as I will be broadcasting live throughout the day chronicling my experience. Here I am, on my way home after a good night of Lost and you know I’m still a little confused about the season. We’re in the last season and
it is going to be 18 episodes, and it just seems like they are going to give us more questions and not enough answers. I kind of wish it would be like an Advent calendar. With 18 episodes give us just one answer an episode for the millions of questions we have.

I approach the ring butterflies in my stomach. The lights blinding. You're so much smaller but just as intimidating.

The bell rings and lights go out. A tunnel vision of only you. I shuffle my feet by no means slow. I juke and jive. I flinch you connect. Birds chirping and stars. Bells ringing in my ear. Ring.

You cut me I bleed. I go to my corner to reevaluate my strategy. I look at the cut-man, looking back at me. The cut-man patches me up, whispers in my ear and sends me back in. I protect myself, hands up. I block the blows. This time I'm ready. I return the punch.

What's the big deal? It's just a big iPod Touch. This may be true, but the thing that people seem to be missing about the iPad is the effect it will have on the industry. Very much the same way the iPhone did. People are talking about eBooks. Although eBooks on the device by know means look to be revolutionary, it does seem as though it will do it, and do it well. The iPad however is already making waves in the eBook industry forcing established companies such as Amazon to change things. Right now it's just a price war but who knows what it will turn into.
As a kid I used to collect comics. For whatever reason I never really read them. Recently though I've picked up a few digital comics for the iPhone and have actually enjoyed it more then I thought I would. This makes me think that I may actually get into them when they are optimized for the bigger device. This is the one thing I've heard more then anything else on the interwebs, even more then complaints. How amazing digital comics will be. It's yet to be seen but I think there is a very good possibility that comics on the iPad could revolutionize things a bit.
As an IT professional I make my living helping those having trouble with technology. I see that about 80% of the computer population use their machines for two things. Internet and word processing. Guess what, the iPad does both. The iPhone did more to move the cell phone market forward then any device before it. Even with the initial limited capabilites.(before the app store) Will the iPad do the same in it's respective category, whatever that category may be.
So here is the million dollar question. Just because it's been done a certain way historically doesn't means it's the right way. The computer gives you limitless possibilities and options, but 9 times out of 10 do you need that extra "stuff". Will the iPad revolutionize the netbook/tablet market? Will it change the way we read books and comics? Or maybe, instead of changing the game it will change the player.

Unless you live under a rock, in a cave, at the bottom of the ocean, you've undoubtedly heard that Apple announced their "Tablet" today. Their "Netbook killer," stating that they are gunning for netbooks. This isn't going to be a post comparing the iPad and netbooks, it is going to be my first impression from a hands off perspective on Apple's new, "revolutionary" device. I will do this by quoting conversations I've had during and since the announcement.

"It's just a big iPod Touch!"
Yes, yes it is. A big iPod touch, which runs almost all current touch screen apps. Additionally an iWork suite catered to the new device and a new iBooks app which is an ereader app. This is where I think the device will shine. It will actually have books mobile that will be readable by people other then Superman with eye zooming special powers. Something the iPod Touch can't say. The mobile possibilities of iWork have yet to be proven but seem very, very intriguing and if done properly could be enough. With iWork and other apps currently in the app store, I could see this device being a bloggers and journalist heaven. So mobile and easy to use on the go. The touch typing will be the sticking point here but that can easily be taken care of with the docked keyboard.

It will also make what was good on the Touch, great. Things like watching movies, and browsing the web for the simple fact that the device is bigger.

True, the lack of these two features is very disappointing. First let me address multi-tasking. I think multi-tasking will be in iPhone OS 4.0. Why isn't iPad showing this? Because iPad is running iPhone OS 3.2. Apple wanted all of the focus to be on the iPad yesterday. There is a good possibility that iPhone OS 4.0 was in a place to be shown off at the announcement but they wanted all focus on the iPad. My prediction is that multi-tasking will be on both the iPad, and iPhone in early Summer with the release of iPhone OS 4.0.

What about Flash. Recently speculation has arisen that when the iPad launches it will include Flash support. During the Apple "is the greatest, and our products are the greatest, and I'm the greatest in my muscle shirt" video it shows the New York Times website with Flash working. I'm not yet convinced that it will include Flash but this recent "evidence" gives hope that maybe, if anything they are working on it.

So, the real question is are you getting one? I am. I originally told myself if it is just a big iPod Touch, I would not. Well it pretty much is just a big iPod Touch. I still plan on getting one because the uses I wanted the iTablet for are there. The killer ebook reader. A way to take the place of my laptop. Notice I said, "take the place," not "replace." I wanted something light and easy to carry, something that would allow me to take notes instead of carrying around the 3 or so paper notebooks I take with me to meetings. The iPad does everything I wanted it for and more. Should you get one? Only you can answer that question. You have to look at your needs, and decide whether the iPad will fulfill those needs.

I for one am excited, hopefully in about 60 days I'll be typing a blog post on the iPad, giving you my first impressions. "Last time there was this much excitement about a tablet, it had some commandments written on it."

Where is home? For me is it in GA? Is it Denver? I've called so many places home in my life. I no longer have the home in which I grew up. None of them. For that reason, I've decided home is where my family is. Where my mom, dad and family are. Where our Christmas decorations are. Where the love is.

Things are going pretty well right now. My inner self is calming down and feeling fulfilled. Work is going well, my friends are doing well. The house. Everything. Couldn't have asked for anything more during this Holiday Season. It's very timely don't you think?

I'm ready to depart this beautiful city only to land in another. This time next week I'll be jumping on a plane to see my mom. We'll have a good Christmas Eve and then a wonderful big family Christmas day. The time is creeping up on me and my inner child is screaming to get out and play.

For your sake I hope your Christmas list has been sent. You've been a good little boy or girl. The plans are set, the house is decorated, presents wrapped, and candles lit. What ever you do don't forget to put out the milk and cookies.

Times they are changing.

So to my embarrassment it has been entirely too long since I've written on here. It's funny how it works out, you do good for a while and are consistent and then life takes over. So what's new?

Well the biggest life change as of late is that I not only closed on my house, but I'm mostly moved in as well. A few odds and ends at the old place and the fridge is being delivered today so I should be set. It was an experience to say the least, something I do not look forward too anytime soon, but soooooo worth it. It's kind of weird actually. I walk in the front door and it still doesn't feel like it's my place. I'm sure it will come in time though.

I still need some furniture to make it all homie but it will all come in time. I'm just excited to be able to buy milk and have a place to put it.

What else is new. Oh yeah, geek time. COD:MW2 came out this week. One word, incredible. I took the day off yesterday to play it and it is amazing. The multiplayer is so diverse and customizable. It will keep me entertained for a very long time.

Well that's pretty much it for now. I'm excited about the upcoming holidays, and look forward to decorating my house. Maybe that's what my next post will be about!

Illumination

The dark has consumed me as I sit in the corner of my round room. The walls tilt as support weakens, dust and rock settle.

I look behind me and realize my shoulders are just to tired to carry the burdens of my past so I turn and walk away. I don't have the energy. The shadows are dark and mocking. Flicker on the wall as the light bounces and fades. I put down my head hiding from what's out their. My heart cracks and splinters. Afraid of what's to come. At the moment of most despair I feel a hand on my shoulder, a warm voice in my heart. The darkness begins to fade.

I stand on my own two feet, the future is my illumination. My beacon in the dark. If I follow this light my path will be clear and the darkness won't touch me anymore.

Decisive pain

It was my decision yet it still hurts. I'm still sad. I go through the day filling my time with distractions. When the day settles down, the darkness returns. I know it's best. It has to be done but it doesn't make it any easier. I know we shouldn't talk. We need to cut the cord of reliance but it's so hard. I can't be that cold. I don't plan on moving on, just past...at least for a little while. Let's make it an easy transition, let's do it together for us, even though there is no more us.

I took you in last night. Drank you and reminisced as the cool liquid coated my throat, flowing through me like memories hanging on a cool Fall breeze. It burns to drink. It burns to think. You seep through my vanes. I sweat you through my pours.

No matter the pain, I come back for more. Like a child, touching a hot stove. I call you come. You pick me up again, with all of my jagged edges. No matter the pain, you cut yourself again, trusting that I won't scar but I always do.

If I see the poison on the table, next to the dagger, will I pick it up and drink it slowly? Will you grab the dagger and cut yourself, knowing of the cuts, bruises, scars. Will we lay there together, hand in hand. Heart in hands. Prepared for the pain, expecting it, wanting it. Our hearts slow, and we drift off, together, forever.
